How many educators are involved?Eight school districts are working collaboratively to support 32 first year teachers and 26 second year teachers. In addition, Eastern Oregon University is providing graduate credit for both the mentor teachers and the beginning teachers participating in the program.
The 58 mentors involved all work full-time in their classrooms, with the exception of two who are retired educators.
The program focuses on intense one-on-one mentoring of the beginning teacher and also includes monthly forums to discuss common issues and themes. New teachers can benefit by realizing they are not struggling in isolation.
