South Lane, Pleasant Hill, Creswell and North Douglas school districts are working together to support 31 first and second year teachers mentored by 30 teacher mentors.
Mentors have committed to a minimum of 90 hours of support for each new teacher over the course of the 2008-2009 school year through weekly interactions with their mentors as well as monthly New Teacher Symposium events. Topics covered at the symposiums include setting goals, teaching to content standards, understanding social and environmental factors that contribute to student behavior, and the cycle of planning followed by reflective teaching.
