Salem-Keizer School District supports 133 first year and 72 second year teachers. Salem Education Association, Corban College, Willamette University, Western Oregon University and Willamette ESD are just a few of the professional organizations supporting beginning educators in this partnership.
Beginning teachers are matched with one of 138 school-based master teachers at their grade level or in their content area as well as have the opportunity to receive coaching in classroom management, lesson design and see model lessons taught by their District Mentor. There are two elementary, one middle and one high school full time mentors who work with new teachers at various schools throughout the district.
