The Lincoln County School District (LCSD) Mentor Project pairs veteran teachers with first and second year teachers for a minimum 90 hours of support. A Professional Learning Community of all 33 beginning teachers collaborates with mentors. In addition, a district level administrator and veteran building principal are coaching seven, first year principals.
Mentors meet with their beginning teachers weekly through a variety of formats. They may observe the new teacher, conduct a model lesson, help with lesson and curriculum planning, or consult on strategies for specific students. In addition, beginning teachers meet for five, 3-hour seminars on selected topics and participate in a Professional Learning Community with their beginning teacher cohort.
