Seven school districts in Clackamas Country have collaborated with Clackamas ESD and Marylhurst University to provide individualized support to seventy-nine beginning teachers.
During the year, each mentor provides approximately 45 hours of one-on-one instructional mentoring with each new teacher. In addition, new teachers participate in a New Teachers’ Seminar, a three-credit class taught by Marylhurst University faculty. Another feature of the Clackamas County program is that new teachers have the opportunity to observe “best practices” in experienced teachers’ classrooms.
