Willamette ESD has partnered with Linn Benton Lincoln ESD this school year to add an additional 11 school districts to the list of supported sites.
The program now consists of 113 new teachers being mentored by 20 part-time mentors and 12 new administrators who are mentored by 4 administrators.
Mentors, all of whom have had formal training in effective mentoring, meet monthly to share ideas and strategies for helping teachers. They also meet regularly with new teachers and principals to provide them with needed support. Early in the year, workshops and model lessons are conducted focused on effective classroom management. Training for new principals focuses on the reality of wearing “multiple hats” which often includes handling some district level responsibilities in a small district in addition to administering their own school.
